Inception, Shoes For The Journey

“That old September feeling, left over from school days, of summer passing, vacation nearly done, obligations gathering, books and football in the air… Another fall, another turned page: there was something of jubilee in that annual autumnal beginning, as if last year’s mistakes had been wiped clean by summer.”
— Wallace Stegner

Past was some crazy times of fun. In this quarter life moment I thought I should begin to re-document things for those little dreams, moods, realness of interests, some memories that I may let off in the future, and some thoughts to float around the cloudy bay… I always have this feeling as if I’m constantly living in a dream; waking up from one, only to find myself in another’s point of inception. It’s as though I am in a world of my own. People pass remarks about life itself being a dream, where you make of it. Some say it’s all fate and destiny. While others also say that a good pair of shoes bring you on a better journey. But…, what is the definition of ‘good’? Does it mean aesthetically pleasing? Quality assuring? Or simply just comfort and secure?

I have two personal takes: First, my most comfortable high heels is not the most expensive. In fact, it was rather affordable — from Pedro; a Singapore company (a higher-end yet still affordable label of Charles & Keith), which they had sponsored me for one of my beauty pageants 3 years back. To my surprise, I could literally run in it and I’m not kidding! As for my second take, the most comfortable flats I’ve tucked my feet in was from Louis Vuitton. The experience was simply walking on cushion! Hence, in my humble opinion, a ‘good’ pair of shoes fundamentally requires the price to justify the ultimate experience. Unfortunately, I have worn both shoes out to the max and by the time I realised, they are no longer in production.

So why am I talking about shoes to begin with? Similar to the metaphor of how people wear different/many “hats” in life, we also wear difference shoes in life. And, yes I have worn quite a plenty. However, there are two main points/differences when it comes to the latter: 1) It is logical and literal to wear different shoes for different purposes and we see it evidently from different walks of life. 2) It is also a luxury to be able to have shoes to wear, despite them being evidently a logical and literal solution to protection and comfort in the world we mostly know of. Here in my HAUS, would be a record of my many different journeys in my own walk of life. And, I feel, that shoes could best represent and relate to the experiences I/we could be journeying through in any situations — whether if it’s a good fit, if it’s uncomfortable, will it take you somewhere, if it’s supported or makes you look/feel elevated etc.

Before we jump start on everything else, I would like to share one piece of my favourite and most basic fashion advice that I strongly live by: “Better to be over-dressed than under-dressed. Always, always wear shoes. Heels and dress shoes are perfect. Sandals are for the beach and slippers are meant for markets.” Point is, being presentable is being respectful. (:

Signing off, Whispers of Pesh.
